Exploited for Entertainment...Turn up!

Universal greetings to one & all. With this cosmic breath we share (u.o.e.n.o) This is Cee aka Omegasun aka Mr."Make My Day", he with another edition of Omegasunslight. Today'y topic at hand is the "turn up", "ratchet", "swag" ,"twerk" etc phenomena which is the bastard offspring of the YOLO wave. (You only live once) This mantra of the youth has been a gateway to reckless behavior, social mischief, decreased dignity, intelligence, cultural honor, with increased attention whoring and thirstiness. It has infested the "hood", creating new creatures that as the late, great Rick James would say "that you won't take home to mutha.." Look, I understand the desire to be extra determined. Extra motivated. To be noticed. To take chances and risks that liven up this human experience, but for real. 100. Where's the responsibility? Where's the accountability? Whether you are "ratchet", just loud and boastful with no message nor tact. Tasteless in decision making offering no boundary for your madness. How about the increased activity of "attention whoring" and "thirstiness" (by males & females) to be accepted on levels. (There's levels to this...hahaa) The flashy, grandiose acts displaying nothing but fragments of a shallow & selfish personality. You might be able to afford & wear some of the expensive, flyest fabrics. Go to the "popping" places. Drive some of the coolest whips and still can't escape those "ratchet ways". (Chris B, Ri-RI and a bunch more) Being "ratchet" is now becoming a social caste since America's darling surburbian youth like Lindsay Lo, Amanda Bynes, Justin Beiber, Selena Gomez and oh yes, the fake queen of the twerk (Shout out to the real twerkerz...or not) Miley Cyrus. They have collectively shown that money is not the soultion and can also enable this....lets say "foolery".  "Turnt up" is the Turbo boost nitro code word to go full speed ahead into a brick wall of conflict. You might hear a young lady say "I go from 0-60 in 1.2 seconds on a b....." What type of mindset you think that is? Is it productive? Does it afford this person all the best that life has to offer? Turnt up has been exploited enough to become a marketing strategy, making millions. It also fuels the square living mundane person into the ultra whimsical & animated. The soundtrack was actually the revamped "Harlem Shake" videos.  Yeah, that initiated or at least "put the stamp" in the socially awkward to run in the phonebooth and come out, shirt off as Super Get-it-poppin.  Imagination runs wild but with no respect, runs nothing. Now this behavior sparked in the living experience known as "the hood". Though it is creative, it also showed the wild side of expression when suppressed by conformity. See, our ways in the hood are to form a lane that separates ourselves from the fixed way of doing things in society. "Everybody all shy, oh well, TURNUP!" "Just copped a new belt, I want everyone to see so I'mma sag and my "swag". (another word to bury) These actions have little sled worth in them and attempt to state to all "I am somebody" and/or "Look at me". But these actions lack substance and pale in the sight of true determination & real success. "Ratchet" is a whole other beast and wooo! Its an ugly one. Ratchet is disregard for any moral code of conduct. It is whatever, whenever, with whoever, however whereever. And it always has a following or audience. From the talk shows (that do anything but talk. More exploitation) like Jerry, Maury and yes Piers Morgan. Most "reality" shows that do insane rating numbers. Your Bad Girls Clubs series and most of Mona-Scott Young produced shows (LHHAtl & NY), Every show that have "wives" that aren't "wives"anymore, and that danger Honey Boo Boo. (Little girl if you don't SAT down) That show there, the characters have subtle "hoodish" undertones to make you think its cute. Quips of quick wit that producers of racial shows would have the Big Momma, sassy sista, or slick n...mmm (you know) say for comic relief. Yet it is not about race now (yeah right) Now its about "street cred". Cool points packaged to be exploited on the next pop culture channel by the next fame plagued preteen or young adult...Usually from Disney (hmmm, interesting) I knowledge the fact, young people of other ethnicities see the way "hood" kids roll and like the style in the madness. But when our youth in the streets get educated, compassionate and serious, will there be open arms to embrace their awakening? Will their rise to greatness & redemption be celebrated? Or will society just prefer & accept the "hood" clowning? Exploitation or entertainment? The way it is now exploitation IS the entertainment. Nobody is saying, well I'm not saying, don't let loose & be free. Not to have a blast because that is how we communicate & share. But will this freedom cost our integrity? Only time & choice will tell. I, at this time will personally & officially, bury the words "ratchet", "turnt up" and "swag" from my vocab. If I say any of these words out of poetic context with the "hood" meaning, I will be subject to wearing an "I love Bieber" T-shirt with a Hanna Montana "Best of Both Worlds" book bag and sing Rihanna songs for a whole week. (UGGH..please don't make me) Alright, thanks for reading & please, have a safe Labor day. You & your family. Say NO to any military involvement in Syria and as always...live fully, love freely and don't be RATCHEEEET (Last one, hahaa) Peace.

All in the Delivery

Peace and universal greetings one & all, great & small. This is Cee aka Omegasun aka "Walk the Path, Speak the Math" with another edition of Omegasunslight. This one is dedicated to the message carried by the messenger. Just recently, a young lady named Antoinette Tuff was named a hero for her resolve in coercing a would be serial killer in a Georgia elementary school to first, be calm. Next, rethink his plan and stay focused while the police and other services got into position for whatever may transpire. This brave soul was able to quell the gunman down to the point where he could be subdued. (Hmmmm,
I hope Zimmerman & other neighborhood watchers are taking notes) The skin color differed but her motherly delivery soothed something in him and he wouldn't fire on her. It could've happened. It could've went wrong. She wasn't afraid because she felt her faith is her message. But what was more awesome was her delivery. When one can say the right things, at the right time and most importantly in the right tone & context, anything can get done. The message may be something that can totally be against our belief system but if delivered properly we may take it into consideration, at least for study. This is the difference between President Obama & former President Bush. Both delivered some bulls@%t, but Obama delivers most of this bad news smooth. Give you a chance to think about hope. The situation of Greg Snowden was one of delivery. The discreet information to be considered was that of the people. It was their information. But because his process of giving the facts up didn't seem "proper" in the eyes of the NSA, it became treason and not patriotism. The work for the people is most often patriotic. In the story of the Christian's Jesus, his appeal to the Pharisees was one of truth as told by there own records but being that the tone was one of authority, their arrogance took the message as being blasphemous and you know the rest of the tale. Delivery is everything. El Hajj Malik El Shabazz aka Malcolm X one of the most eloquent speakers of the 20th century, was able to speak to the heart of the firmest Christian, Judaic, Muslim, extremist of white supremacy to the extent that they had to respect him. Listen studiously, and commend him. If more people would of backed him with heart, I believe his demise would not have came as it did. Delivery is the most important tool in negotiations. With your tone, you may request very little and receive a great deal even outweighing the other party. Always meet the bargaining party with elements that make their acquisition that much more tantalizing where they would have little to no choice but take the offer. Most of what we don't have is because many of us lost the art of speaking with each other. We talk "at" each other instead of "to" each other. Also most communication is nonverbal and relies on intent. The energy alone will tell if its going to be a deal maker or breaker. Most of this I learned through trial and error and through the study of good books. It is still a work in progress but I hope this message will begin the process of contemplation and application. The delivery is through typed word via social media but the intent is to merge like minds and form better relationships. As always let me know how you feel about the subject. Your thoughts on it are like gold to me. If you want to take a chance for an extra income, for the price of a nice bottle of wine you can gain a sales position boasting 200% commissions. It has been around since 1926 and has over 5 million members. Happy bornday to Hip Hop Hooraay!

Universal greeting of peace and harmony to one & all. This is Cee aka Omegasun aka "we did it Brooklyn" with another edition of Omegasunslight. Wow...its been 40 years. Not yet middle aged yet a grown so & so. The culture called hip hop. Yes I said culture. It is a flow, a vibe. A way to do things. A way to relate and communicate with people. I'm 39 years young (yes, I'm giving my age) and it is an honor to have been and still be a part of one of the greatest creations of struggle in the Western Hemisphere in modern times. (We can debate) Just like any childhood guided by the streets, it has come with growing pains. We were birthed in dilapidated conditions but was too young to change it, so we partied our arrival. Sounds of disco music, funk, Motown & other music being tweaked & manipulated to fulfill our needs. The overall mission to "rock the place to be" was the entire agenda. This is the hip hop baby giggly & free. Singing songs about the dj over creative sounds and tunes was our mobile. Spinning over heads as we learn our new movements and toys. Then we started to speak. We needed to be heard. And when talked whoa....we told our story. It was cute. Still not knowing to much about our parents, jazz & blues.  Uncles, freedom & creativity. Our aunties dance & rhythm. The true essence of when we began writing our name. We wrote on everything. Paper, clothes, walls, ourselves. We boasted our fashion, our style and showed off. As a youth, we were taken care of mentally and physically. Coming of age, we mirrored our teachers. The streets. Our parents, aunts and uncles call us often but them streets. For every pre teen -teen the desire to be unadulterated and rebellious is key. It marks your arrival. Freedom or aspiration of it brings warrior like anger, rage, excitement, grandeur. Flashy to violent. The youth often reflects the conditions of neighborhood. We began to connect with our peers. From NY to Cali. Seattle to Florida. We shared the speech. We shared the ways and the struggle. Once we began getting money, we adopted some reckless habits and manners. We flexed and posed with arrogance while our cousins across the seas celebrated the ways of our youth. We became materially rich, but spiritually void. No marriage, just single making "singles" and "ringtones". Not committed to anything but the money and fashion. Into adulthood, making money far outweighed the means. Our movements and ego (soloists) were making phenomenal paces in corporate America and the industry, but failed to reflect the essence or its birth. Like any child far removed from home, the purpose lost its way. It seemed that the "fun" was dead. The enthusiasm fell to the way side for gain. Though matured a bit, we lacked substance. But you can't keep a good "kid" down. The creativity of hip hop is too strong. The beat calls for attention. Writing your name involves a rhythm. Around us, change was emerging. So with a hustlers spirit, we decided to go into business for ourselves and have fun. We looked strange doing this because we were experimenting. We advance through our adversity with childlike expressions. We have gotten in touch with our "inner child" again. It is refreshing the spirit and renewing the culture. We are soon to be what it called "middle aged" where there is also a termed called "crisis" but that only happens when the culture is inconsistent and incomplete. Plus, how can you call something timeless "middle aged"? At 40, the best is yet to come. New songs of freedom will be sung with vibrant, youthful energy. Our dignity will come back in full stride. We will love our youth again because we see Irvin our young ones coming into being. Now WE can guide them if they chose to listen and if we provide wise counsel. So...thank you Kool Herc. Thank you Afrika Bambatta. Thank you Grandmaster Flash, the Furious Five especially Melle Mel. Thanks to Grandmaster Dee, DJ Hollywood, DJ Divine, NYC Breakers, Rocksteady. Special shout Elder Ernie Paniccoli for capturing so many of our greatest moments.  The list of our family goes on. But remember our conception...though argued. A party thrown in the BX. Sedgewick and Cedar part of the South Bronx. A small community center throwing a party with a young locally known DJ from the islands with an enormous system. Ladies enter for 25¢ (yes cents) Fellas for 50¢. All that was asked was no fights (not even mentioned let alone guns or a dress code) and have fun. Innocent youth. It was my childhood. It was your childhood. Many of us was there, during the birth. Now, lets gather again to rebirth the culture. To everyone.... peace, unity, love and have fun.
